Tanya Neary, Practice Manager and Certified Veterinary Technician

Tanya’s family always kept plenty of pets around while she was growing up; she cared for everything from dogs and cats to hamsters, ferrets, birds, and exotic critters. Tanya developed a passion and respect for animals early on in life, and she’s thrilled to have come full circle—now, she helps pets and their owners daily as the Practice Manager here at Golden Valley Animal Hospital!

Tanya earned her degree in women’s studies from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, and worked as a production manager at a retail company after graduating college. Before long, she decided to combine her lifelong adoration of animals with her managerial experience—that’s when Tanya decided to go back to school. She studied veterinary technology at Argosy University and worked as an assistant right here at Golden Valley Animal Hospital during her studies. After earning her degree, Tanya became a full-time technician, and was happy to accept the Practice Manager role in September of 2016.

Outside of her interests in the veterinary world, Tanya enjoys reading, crocheting, and spending time with her family at home. She and her husband share their lives with their son and a lovable miniature schnauzer who goes by Doogie Schnauzer.

Jules Brown, Office Manager and Certified Veterinary Technician

Jules thinks of her career not as a job, but as a calling—working with animals is truly her passion! She serves as one of Golden Valley Animal Hospital’s Lead Veterinary Technicians.

Jules grew up in Minneapolis and enrolled in Medical institute of Minnesota’s Veterinary Technician program. While attending school, she began at the clinic as an assistant and completed her internship here.

As a Technician, Jules enjoys placing IV catheters and performing other hands-on medical work. She’s also fond of caring for pets like rabbits and guinea pigs; they have unique biological aspects, and Jules loves cuddling with them when she gets the chance!

Jules and her husband live with a pit bull mix, Stella, and three cats named Sophia, Solomon, and Sara. When she isn’t working or spending time with her family and pets, Jules enjoys long bike rides, practicing yoga, weight training, kick boxing, playing racquetball, catching a movie, and sharing time with friends.

Stephanie Clark, Lead Certified Veterinary Technician

Although she didn’t have many pets growing up, Stephanie always knew she wanted to work with animals for a career. As she began to explore the options within veterinary medicine, Stephanie realized that the Veterinary Technician position was the perfect fit for her!

Stephanie grew up in Minnetonka with her parents and older sister. She was still in high school when she got her first job in the veterinary field as a kennel assistant in an animal hospital; she stayed there while attending technician school at the Medical Institute of Minnesota (now Argosy University). Stephanie completed her internship right here at Golden Valley Animal Hospital before being hired on full time after graduation.

Client education is Stephanie’s favorite part of her job—it’s incredibly rewarding for her to teach a new pet owner about the best possible care for their animal. Stephanie also likes performing dental cleanings and running lab work.

Stephanie lives with her husband, Eddie, and their son Nick and daughter Audrey. They share their home with a Quaker Parakeet named Rubix, a Green-Cheek Conure named Abu, and a Munchkin cat named Billy who has the loudest purr Stephanie has ever heard.

In time away from the clinic, Stephanie enjoys scrapbooking, attending concerts, cross-stitching, and quilting. She’s even made several complete quilts for friends and family members!

Patty Griese, Veterinary Technician

Patty knew from a very young age that she wanted to work with animals—in fact, she never considered any other career path! She’s worked here at Golden Valley Animal Hospital since 1998.

Patty grew up in Blaine, Minnesota, with her parents, sister, and brother. Right out of high school, she signed up for Veterinary Technician training. Lab work and specialty surgeries are two of Patty’s favorite aspects of veterinary medicine, and she loves being able to see a pet go home happy and healthy because of the work she’s done.

Patty lives with her husband and their two children. The family has two Golden Retrievers, Freya and Odin, two cats named Oliver, and Mario, two miniature horses named Sophie and Coal Dust.

Outside of her work at the clinic, Patty enjoys horseback riding, antiquing, and walking with her dog. She’s also passionate about rescue work with dogs and cats, and even used to serve as the Vice President of a Humane Society she started with a friend!

After working at another local animal clinic, she joined the Golden Valley Animal Hospital team in 2004. In addition to working here on call, Jessie also serves as a full-time Veterinary Technician and Pharmacy Technician.

In her time away from veterinary medicine, Jessie enjoys playing softball and spending time with her family. She and her husband Corey have two wonderful sons, Bradlee and Jaxon, and share their home with a mixed-breed dog named Val and a French Bulldog named Sarge.

Krista Bjork, Certified Veterinary Technician

Prior to working in veterinary medicine, Krista began studying aspects of human medicine while working as a nursing and physical therapy aide. As much as she enjoyed working with people, Krista began to realize that her true passions lay elsewhere: with animals!

Krista grew up in Fergus Falls, a small town in northern Minnesota. After deciding on animal care as a career, she attended Animal Behavior College and became an Animal Behavior Certified Dog Trainer (ABCDT) and ran her own training business for several years. This renewed her childhood interest in veterinary medicine, so she enrolled at Globe University in Moorhead, Minnesota to become a Certified Veterinary Technician. After graduation, Krista moved to the twin cities and served at a small-animal clinic in Minneapolis for about eight months.  At that time she wanted a change and arrived here at Golden Valley Animal Hospital in January of 2013.

Krista has two wonderful children: a son, Gentry, and a daughter named Emma. The family shares their home with a Bichon Frise named Gunner Pierre, and three cats named Candy Corn, Luna and Terra.

Outside of work, Krista enjoys horseback riding and cross-country skiing. Her kids have developed a love of skiing as well, and Krista loves watching them improve every year!

Bridget Mateyka, Certified Veterinary Technician

Bridget was 12 years old when she got her first puppy, Sophie. When Sophie was diagnosed with a liver shunt, Bridget started developing an intense interest in the medical side of animal care. Ever since, she’s known that she wanted to become a Veterinary Technician!

Bridget grew up near St. Paul but has lived all over the state of Minnesota. She enrolled in the Veterinary Technician Program at the Minnesota School of Business in 2012, and graduated in 2014. In December of that year, she passed the Veterinary Technician National Exam and became a Certified Veterinary Technician.

In March of 2015, Bridget joined the Golden Valley Animal Hospital family. She particularly enjoys laboratory work and has a special interest in hematology, but also likes routine pet care work, like nail trims. Most of all, Bridget loves meeting new animals and developing lasting relationships with pet owners.

Bridget lives with her fiancé, Ben, and Max, a tuxedo cat who enjoys snuggling, playing, and knocking down valuable items around the house. When she isn’t spending time with her own pets or caring for animals around the clinic, Bridget enjoys reading, playing video games, watching movies, and spending time outdoors.

Stephen Harris, Veterinary Technician

When Stephen made the decision to go back to school, his fiancé was the first to encourage him to look into veterinary medicine. She knew just how much he adored animals and found the medical field fascinating! As soon as Stephen toured the facilities of the college he was interested in, he knew that a career in veterinary medicine was just what he was looking for.

Stephen is a Minnesota native and obtained his Associate’s degree from Argosy University. He serves as a Veterinary Technician here at Golden Valley Animal Hospital, and has developed a special passion for anesthesia work.

When he’s not tending to pets’ needs here at the clinic, Stephen enjoys cooking, playing games, being outdoors, and spending time with his family. He lives with his fiancé, his two wonderful sons, and a pair of lovable cats.

 Nicky Berr, Lead Veterinary Assistant

Growing up in Collingswood, New Jersey, Nicky always had a soft spot for animals. When she had the opportunity to start working at a local shelter, she jumped at the chance! After working at the animal shelter, Nicky signed on as a Veterinary Assistant at a two-doctor practice and then worked for a five-doctor small-animal practice. After that, she moved to Minnesota and began here at the clinic in February of 2014. Drawing blood is one of her favorite things to do around the clinic, and above all she enjoys seeing ill pets go home healthy.

At home, Nicky lives with her fiance, Emily and their Chihuahuas, Thomas Capone, Fernando and Doug, who enjoy sleeping in bed with Nicky even though they have a very nice dog bed. When time permits, Nicky enjoys spending time with her friends and eating good sushi.

Jolee is from Blaine, Minnesota and attended Bemidji State University for her general education before signing on at the Minnesota School of Business, where she is currently studying to earn her certification in veterinary technology. Carly’s own pets have helped her through plenty of hard times—she wanted to be able to give back to other families by taking care of their beloved four-legged friends! She’s found the perfect fit as a Veterinary Assistant here at Golden Valley Animal Hospital.

Carly’s favorite part of her workday is when she gets to help doctors in the exam rooms. Seeing how everything comes together to make a pet healthy again is very satisfying for her. She’s also fond of seeing exotic animals and being able to offer them whatever quality care they might need.

At home, Carly has several pets of her own. Sega is a rescued Australian Cattle dog who loves playing with his laser light and going on long walks through the forest. Luna, named after Luna Lovegood from the Harry Potter series, enjoys chasing her tail and carrying her toys around the house. Vito takes after his namesake, Don Vito Corleone from The Godfather, and enjoys guarding his water bowl.

In her spare time, Carly enjoys reading and ice skating. Her entire family has always been heavily involved in hockey; right now, Carly’s nephews are learning to skate and she loves being able to help them!

Mike Fenn, Veterinary Assistant

For as long as he can remember, Mike has loved providing care to his own animals and talking with other pet owners about their four-legged friends. For him, veterinary medicine is the perfect way to incorporate that into a career! Mike is thrilled to begin his veterinary journey here at Golden Valley Animal Hospital.

A Minneapolis native, Mike attended college in Wisconsin to study economics and Spanish, and even spent a semester abroad in Spain. A few years after graduation, Mike decided to take a leap of faith and jumpstart his veterinary career—he returned to school to become a veterinarian, and joined the Golden Valley Animal Hospital family shortly afterward to supplement his studies with hands-on experience. His favorite part of the job is getting to learn something new every day; no two shifts are ever quite the same!

Mike lives in Chaska and when he has time between his busy work and school schedules, he enjoys reading, and spending time with friends and family.

Evett Hedemark, Veterinary Assistant

Evett has loved the idea of working hands-on with animals ever since she was young—she and her family kept everything from dogs and rabbits to fish, birds, chinchillas, and reptiles! When the opportunity arose to join a compassionate, hard-working team of animal-care professionals, she didn’t hesitate. Now, Evett cares for the pets and animal owners of the area as a Veterinary Assistant.

Evett is a Minnesota native and currently studies veterinary technology at Argosy University. She plans on becoming a Licensed Veterinary Technician in the near future! She was happy to supplement her studies with real-world experience by joining the Golden Valley Animal Hospital family in January of 2017 as a Kennel Attendant—it wasn’t long before she learned even more and became a Veterinary Assistant.

When she isn’t studying or tending to pets’ needs here at the hospital, Evett enjoys hiking and backpacking, camping, hunting, fishing, snowboarding, and dabbling in drawing and photography. She and her partner, Trevor, share their lives with two pets: a dog, Millie, who loves to spend time outdoors; and a mischievous cat who goes by Miles.

Hannah Timpe, Veterinary Assistant

Hannah knows just how valuable pets truly are—her own Corgis, Murphy and Lacy, have been a constant source of love and support over the last ten years. Ever since she can remember, Hannah has wanted to work in the veterinary profession to give something back! She gets to do just that as a Veterinary Assistant.

Hannah grew up on a small hobby farm in the suburbs of Minneapolis, where animal care was ingrained in her early on. She attended the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington to earn her degree in molecular and cellular biology, then moved back to Minnesota to start her animal-care career. Hannah joined the Golden Valley Animal Hospital family shortly afterward, where she loves interacting directly with clients and pets to make a direct impact on the community. Her ultimate goal is to become a veterinarian herself!

In her time away from the hospital, Hannah loves downhill skiing, hiking, spending time at the lake, and enjoying the company of her own pets at home. In addition to Murphy and Lacy, she and her family have two cats named Oreo and Ginger; a trio of horses who go by Izzy, Valley, and Sjoerd; and a flock of 20 chickens.
